Number of unemployed on the rise in Finland
SOCIETY - The number of unemployed people in Finland rose remarkably in February. According to the Statistics Centre of Finland the number of unemployed persons was 268,000. That is 27,000 more than a year earlier.
The unemployment rate was 10.1 percent while in 2014 it was 9.1 percent. The men's unemployment figure was higher than that of women.
The unemployment rate of the 15-24-year-olds was 2.6 percent more than the year before. The Government's actions to fight especially young citizens' unemployment has not been successful this far and employment is a hot topic in the elections this spring.
Eurostat, the statistical office of the European Union, states that 23.815 million people in the EU were without a job in January this year. Compared to December 2014, the number of unemployed people decreased by 156,000. The number is relatively substantial, since the decrease happened in one month only.
